Omni Amelia Island Plantation – official start of the holiday season

December 3, 2010

Friday evening, November 26, was the kick off of the holiday’s here at the Omni Amelia Island Plantation with our annual Tree Lighting Celebration at the Spa and Shops.

Next in line to see Santa

Festivities included the countdown of the lighting of a 37 foot tree, a carousel, horse-drawn carriages, music, hot chocolate and most importantly the option to have a sit down with St. Nick.  Property owners and local residents alike gathered here by the hundreds for the event that raised funds to benefit “Take Stock in Children.”  Attending the event are property owners Scott and Joanna Rasco and their two children pictured below with myself and fellow Amelia Island Plantation Real Estate Sales Executive Katie Burgess.

We may be cold but the fishing is hot!

December 3, 2010

It is not a bad day at the Omni Amelia Island Plantation when you stop by Walker’s Landing on the way back from lunch and toss the fishing line in the water and tag five (5) Sea Trout in 15 minutes.  Yes that’s right,  5 trout in 15 minutes.  The photo below is the first one caught and all were released.

Come join us at the Omni Amelia Island Plantation, a sportsman’s paradise.

Amelia Island Equity Club – The Grand Celebration

October 27, 2010

The formation of  the new Amelia Island Equity Club was celebrated this past weekend with a variety of events and social gatherings.  The schedule of events began with a Long Point Golf Tournament on Thursday October 21, 2010.  The shotgun start at noon included an All American Cookout Buffet .  Also on Thursday was a free tennis clinic put on by Tennis Pros Kelly Gunterman and Rod Gibson.  I attended the clinic and it was great fun.  I will admit that I was a bit sore the next morning but not too sore to follow-up on Friday afternoon with a Tennis Flighted Round Robin from 3:00 to 5:00 PM .

One of the many club members participating in the Tennis Round Robin

A community forum was held Saturday October 23, 2010 at 10:00 AM with representatives from the Omni Amelia Island Plantation, the Amelia Island Plantation Community Association and the Amelia Island Club on hand to speak to the crowd of an estimated 500 owners about the current status of the community and future plans.

A Grand Celebration took place that evening at the Ocean Clubhouse as some 400 club members, myself included, enjoyed a fantastic event of food, beverages and entertainment.

Congratulations to all those involved for putting on a fantastic weekend of events.

Amelia Island Planatation Community Association

October 18, 2010
The Beach

Last Friday October 15, 2010 I attended the Amelia Island Plantation Community Association Meeting.  Here is a brief recap of what went on.

The meeting started with a review of all the committees within the association.  Members of the audience were given a brief outline of the work done by each committee and invited owners to volunteer to assist with this important committee work.

Mary Brannan, the President of our SAISSA (South Amelia Island Shore stabilization Association), which overseas the beach re nourishment and monitors the erosion of the shore gave a brief overview of the up coming beach re nourishment proposed for the summer of 2012.

Ron Kolar briefed the community on the past and upcoming road projects in and around the community.  Of particular interest was the news about the current re-paving project of the Amelia Island Parkway from the south end of the island to the traffic circle at Gerbing Road.  Ron discussed the status on the traffic circle plans to be located at the north end of the Omni Amelia Island Plantation.  This will provide easy access to property owners on the east and west sides of the north end of the community in addition to improving traffic safety at this intersection.

The Northeast Florida Fair October 14-24, 2010

October 18, 2010

The Northeast Florida Fair kicked off Friday at the fairgrounds in Callahan on U.S. 1 about 35 minutes west of the Omni Amelia Island Plantation.  The fair opened with a ribbon cutting and Sneak a Peak night on Thursday.

The Ribbon Cutting Opening of the 2010 Fair

The Northeast Florida Fair is a State Agriculture Fair with a variety of animal exhibits, shows, contests, entertainment and rides.  The food was terrific and what county fair would be complete without a funnel cake prior to the ride home.

I took my sons Saturday night along my neighbor Ray and his daughter Sydney.  We had a great time.

Amelia Island – Fernandina Beach Car Show

October 18, 2010

THE AMELIA CRUIZERS 14th ANNUAL 8 FLAGS CAR SHOW

My dog Cole watches over my dream car, a 1958 Chevy Corvette

What a great day to browse Fernandina’s historic district this past Saturday, October 16, 2010.  Special collector vehicles were showcased along the main historic corridor of Centre Street from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. during the Amelia Island Cruizers 8 Flags Car Show.  The Amelia Cruizers event was a delight to car enthusiasts and novice.  My kids were amazed to see what cool cars people used to drive throughout various periods of history.  The show is a fundraiser benefiting  the Justin Hess Scholarship Foundation, Camden County Court Appointed Special Advocates for Children (CASA), and the Nassau County, Florida Council on Aging.

Joe Cutajar – Blogger for Amelia Island Plantation Real Estate Sales

October 18, 2010

Hi, I’m Joe Cutajar, one of the Real Estate Sales Executives for Amelia Island Plantation Real Estate Sales here at the Omni Amelia Island Plantation.  I have volunteered to post updates about news and information regarding this special island community.  Of course our biggest news has been the purchase of Amelia Island Plantation by Omni Hotels and Resorts.  More on that later but first just a bit about this blogger.  I hail from Dearborn Heights, Michigan which is a suburb of Detroit so yes I drive American, a Chevy in fact since my brother Mike works for GM.  I first came to Amelia as an intern from the Culinary Institute of America  in Hyde Park, New York.  Other than a short stay of seven years with the PGA Tour as an Executive Chef  and Food and Beverage Director at their TPC Clubs, I have spent my entire adult life at Amelia Island Plantation.   In 2002 I was recruited from the Club Division here to become one of our Amelia Island Plantation Real Estate Sales Executives.

Joe Cutajar

Amelia Island Plantation Real Estate Sales is the ONLY real estate company located on the Omni Amelia Island Plantation property.  Our office is located at the Reception Center where guests of the resort and hotel check-in and check-out.  We have a staff of 7 real estate agents with a combined experience of 260+ years.  We are supported by a full-time administrative and marketing staff and our office is open seven days a week.

I was the #1 sales agent in combined sales and listing volume in 2009 and I am also currently the #1 sales agent in combines sales and listing volume through September 2010.  I am also a Florida licensed real estate broker.

Having raised my 3 sons on this island (Nathan 16, Alec 14 and Spencer 12), I have always felt a strong sence of responsiblity and appreciation for our community, both here at Amelia Island Plantation and at a local level.  As an owner, I serve on the Board for the Sandcastle Condominium Association.  (Sandcastle is a condominium complex on the ocean adjacent to the Omni Hotel here at Amelia Island Plantation that primarily serves as villa rentals ).  I currently serve on the board for the Fernandina Beach High School Foundation to raise funds to enhance the academic experience of our students.

This blog will be maintained as a resource of all things Amelia.  From the lifestyle of our residents or real estate opportunities – both buying and selling, to the events of the resort and the local community of Fernandina Beach and Nassau County, I will seek to help you Discover Amelia.  Please follow the Amelia Island Plantation Real Estate Sales blog or check back with us regularly!  And feel free to contact us if you have any question, thoughts or need any real estate assistance!

History of Hurricanes at Amelia

August 17, 2009

With our first three named storms for the hurricane season upon us, I thought it releavnt to let everyone know Amelia’s history with hurricanes.  According to the National Hurricane Center, you are 25% more likely to experience a hurricane on Manhattan and Long Island than on Amelia Island.  In the last 155 years, just three storms of hurricane strength have
come ashore in the vicinity of Amelia Island. In fact, the last time Amelia Island experienced hurricane conditions was when Dora came ashore about 50 miles to the south in 1964.

The attached map shows the hurricane strike zones since 1905.
